We are looking for a programmer to join our team.
The candidate will join the team as lead programmer on an upcoming (unannounced) project. The project is currently in a prototype phase, and the candidate will be responsible for creating an architecture in Unity for developing, iterating on, and shipping the game. They will be collaborating closely with artists and designers to implement their vision in an optimized manner and with a focus on mobile devices.
Candidates must be able to legally work from Montreal, Canada. This is not a remote position.
In this role you will:
- Build a flexible and scalable game architecture
- Implement and iterate on a game’s design
- Find performant and scalable ways to execute the artistic vision on desktop and mobile platforms
- Handle art and design integration
- Be part of a team focussed on collaboration and learning
The following points would make you a very strong candidate:
- Strong knowledge of Unity
- Excellent knowledge of C#
- Knowledge of Shaders and Post-processing is an asset
- Some 3D knowledge is an asset
- Experience in shipping mobile games is an asset
- Experience with the Ink narrative scripting language is an asset

This position includes health benefits and a salary of $45,000 CAD. Please note: we pay one salary rate for the whole studio - everyone is paid the same. This role leads to an optional equal ownership stake in the studio. KO_OP is operated as a workers cooperative and full-time employees are entitled to become owners after a probationary period.

About the Studio
KO_OP is a worker owned game studio founded in 2012. We believe in letting artists and designers drive our creative vision and are structured into small teams that each work on creative and challenging game projects that seek to express something new. Our studio values are built on trust, respect, friendship, and care.

This role is for a full-time position with the studio which means you will have the option to become a co-owner of the studio after a 6-12 month probationary period. You will be involved in the core decision making and future vision of KO_OP if you choose to become an owner.
